Kamwege is known to host Kibale National Park a primate capital of Africa. The increasing population has forced the local people to do illegal activities around the National Park and also extremely cut down the existing forest which is a habitat for wildlife. This forced the existing primates to flee after being exposed.
It is on this basis that HEVIA came up with an idea of distributing free tree seedlings to the community and constructing Energy Saving stove for each house hold to reduce on the pressure exerted on the natural forests. HEVIA is also advocating for alternative sources of energy in the community.
HEVIA also offers community education and outreach programs for local communities. This equips the community with knowledge on the importance of conserving the environment. It also demonstrates the advantages of using the energy saving stoves compared to the traditional ways of cooking.
